All COMPLETE applications are screened by the MTHS Selection Committee and if acceptable are invited to an interview.  Notification of acceptance or denial will be in writing.  Acceptance is also contingent upon the receipt of the applicant’s 4th advisory report card and most recent test scores.  All accepted students are expected to attend the McKinley Summer Institute.

1. Obtain an application from your guidance counselor at your home school or download the application from the McKinley website, http://www.mckinleytech.org .  If you are new to DCPS you may obtain a copy of the application directly from McKinley Technology High School.
    
2. Read the application carefully and print legibly.  Please ask your English teacher, Math or Science teacher, Counselor, and Administrator to complete and return the four (4) recommendations to you in sealed envelopes so that you can submit them as part of your completed application packet. Please do NOT allow a recommender to send a recommendation under separate cover.  Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Please make sure all requested materials are with the application.

4. 4 Recommendations (English, Math or Science, Counselor, Administrator) in sealed envelopes
5. Proof of DC residency
6. 10th grade only – include Course Verification

You will NOT be invited to interview if your application is incomplete.  Submit the total Admissions Packet to Director of Admissions, McKinley Technology High School, 151 T Street, NW, Washington, DC 20002.  FAXED FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

When the Application Packet is received at McKinley, applications are reviewed, evaluated, and scored by a Selection Committee.  Acceptable applicants are assigned to an interview panel.  Notification of acceptance or denial will be sent in writing.

1. If accepted the parent and student are required to:

• Attend an Orientation Meeting,
• Complete the Advisory Parent/Student Contract and send it to the Admissions Director,
• Enroll your child with the Registrar,
• Give a copy of the acceptance letter to the student’s current counselor so that his/her records will be sent to McKinley, not the neighborhood school,
• Send a copy of the final report card to the Director of Admissions as the final step of acceptance, and
• Attend the McKinley Summer Institute.

Faculty and administration of MTHS understand that there is often a period of adjustment necessary given the transition from middle school to high school. That said, McKinley students who do not achieve a satisfactory level in the MTHS Advisory areas of: academic achievement, attendance, behavior, school-wide contributions, and collective commitments, will be uninvited to return to McKinley for the following school year.  If the student is unsuccessful in the program, he/she will return to his/her neighborhood school. McKinley does not accept transfer students to the upper grades. Those students would not be able to complete the number of elective credits to be eligible for graduation with their class.
