Mr. Pinder, Principal
Mr. David R. Pinder, Assistant Principal at McKinley last year, was named McKinley Principal in July, 2007. Principal Pinder brings several years of multifacted teaching experience to his new position. Mr. Pinder is recognized for his skill in supervising and coaching teachers to improve their performance. Some highlights of his background are given below.
- Public School Experience
- As Assistant Principal at McKinley during the 2006-2007 academic year, Mr. Pinder led the Ninth Grade teaching team to increase student achievement in English and Math, he conducted school-wide professional development workshops in redesigning our Vision and Mission.
- Mr Pinder built strong relationships with parents on the ninth grade team during weekly parent meetings by inviting them to take part in the design and implementation of their child’s individual improvement plan and he met individually with 40% of ninth grade parents to discuss student progress.
- From July 2003-July 2005, Mr. Pinder was Academy Principal, Social Studies Department Chair, AVID Coordinator at New Town High School in Owings Mills, MD. In that capacity Mr. Pinder worked with teachers in the Health, Human and Social Sciences Academy to significantly increase student attendance and significantly increased student achievement in collaboration with Academy teachers.
- valuated, observed and coached seven teachers in the social studies department to improve instructional practices
- From December 1999 – July 2003 Mr. Pinder was a social studies teacher, co-director of Professional Development, and Homework Center Coordinator at the Chesapeake High School in Baltimore. There he taught social studies to grades 9-12, served as a mentor teacher and curriculum writer. Mr Pinder designed and implemented a school wide-writing rubric and writing strategy that led to an 18% achievement increase overall in high school assessment exams He also coached golf and baseball from 1999-2002.
- From December 1999-July 2005 Mr Pinder was a teacher at Home and Hospital Alternative Education, Baltimore, MD teaching all grade level content including handicapped, emotionally disturbed, special education and learning disabled.
- Education
- Mr. Pinder has a Master’s of Educational Administration from Trinity University in Washington, DC.
- Mr. Pinder earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Social Sciences with a track in Secondary Education from Towson University, December 1999.

- 2004 Alternative Educator of the Year, Baltimore County
- Voted Most popular teacher by Chesapeake High School students 1999-2003,
- Vice-President of the Friends of the Library, Baltimore City 1997-2002
- National Association of Secondary School Principals, 2003-2005
- Member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity
