Our selective application process is designed to identify students who are prepared to excel in a rigorous STEM-centered environment while contributing to our vibrant diverse student body.
McKinley Technology High School is a premier, selective STEM-focused application high school in the heart of Washington, D.C. We offer four distinct national award-winning pathways: Biotechnology, Computer Science, Engineering, and Networking & IT. As a selective high school, applicants must meet specific academic and social-emotional criteria to be considered for admission.

03. Deadlines
The high school application lottery typically closes in early February. All supplemental materials must be submitted via the My School DC portal.
The Application Process
Following a successful initial application, selected students will be invited to the next stage of our selection process.

Complete the common application at MySchoolDC.org and select McKinley Technology HS.

Review of Credentials
Our committee reviews academic records, test scores, and student essays for eligibility.

Invitation & Interview
Qualified students are invited for a personal interview and/or group assessment.
Important Reminders for Families
- McKinley Tech is a selective high school and not a neighborhood boundary school.
- Students must re-apply if they leave the school and wish to return.
- Parental involvement and student commitment to curriculum are essential.
- Applications submitted after the My School DC deadline are generally not considered.
